Summer houses

Gelida

This is the first evidence of tourism by the affluent bourgeoisie of Barcelona, between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. Numerous families built their second homes here and did so in the most impressive way possible. Visit Gelida and take a walk through art noveau.

Between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, bourgeoisie families from Barcelona built their second homes in Gelida, seduced by the landscape and the good railway line connection. The summer house phenomenon was born. Other well-to-do local families also built their own homes, mainly following Catalan modernisme and noucentisme architecture.
